The incident was reported to police at 11:30am UTC and the campus is currently on lockdown. University officials released the following statement on Facebook.
"Texas Southern University has announced the campus is on
lockdown following a shooting
incident just moments ago. Early reports
indicate two shot — conditions not known right now. The assailant is
still at large. All staff are asked to remain in offices — students to
remain in classrooms until further notice."
ABC13 reports that one of the victims has died and one suspect has been taken into custody.
The incident is the third shooting near the TSU campus in the past two months.
College officials announced on Twitter that classes would
be cancelled for the remainder of the day. The university has roughly
9,700 students enrolled in classes.
Earlier in the day, a shooting took place on campus at Northern Arizona University, where one student was killed and three others were left injured.
