Couple jailed for forcing girl, 13, to carry out humiliating sex assault on teenage boy

A couple were jailed yesterday for forcing a 13-year-old girl to take part in a humiliating sexual assault on a 14-year-old boy.

Jemma Baskerville held the boy down during the attack while her former partner Stephen Lawrence put on a pornographic video to try to stimulate the victim.

The boy endured a 45 minute ordeal in which he was held down while the girl put her hand down his trousers and assaulted him.

Baskerville was jailed for four years and Lawrence for four and a half after a judge at Exeter Crown Court ruled they both posed a risk to children.

The boy suffered months of bullying and teasing at school after the girl spread rumours about what had happened to him in Lawrence's flat in Bideford, Devon.

They were the only adults present at Lawrence's flat in Bideford but instead of protecting children at a teenage party, they spurred them on to take part in the sex act.

Baskerville started the sexual activity during a play fight and then urged the 13-year-old girl to touch the boy and 'make him horny'.

He fled to a bedroom but Baskerville followed him and held him down and forced him to watch a television where her partner was playing the pornographic DVD.

Baskerville, 39, of Bideford, and Lawrence, 45, of nearby Northam, were found guilty of causing the 14-year-old boy to engage in sexual activity without consent and inciting the 13-year-old to engage in sexual activity.

Recorder Andrew Oldland told the pair: 'This went way beyond normal behaviour. You were in positions of trust and took advantage of the victims' naivety.

'Baskerville took what started as play fighting into a serious sexual assault. The 13-year-old girl was the means by which she carried out this offence, and that is deeply disturbing.

'She humiliated the boy by laughing at him and commenting about how long it was taking. A reference to that was used against him at school and in his victim personal statement he describes how horrible that was.

'He says he felt worthless and humiliated and felt a sense of shame.'

Turkey's president warns Russia not to 'play with fire'

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has warned Russia not to "play with fire" after reports emerged that Turkish businessmen had been detained in Russia.
Moscow said it would suspend visa-free travel with Turkey, and its tourism agency head announced on Friday it will ask more than 9 000 Russians currently in Turkey to return home by the end of December.
Relations between the former Cold War antagonists are at their lowest in recent memory after Turkey shot down a Russian fighter jet near the Syrian border on Tuesday. The pilot was machine-gunned dead by rebels on the ground in Syria as he parachuted down.
Russia has threatened economic retaliation - a response Erdogan has dismissed as emotional and indecorous.
"It is playing with fire to go as far as mistreating our citizens who have gone to Russia," Erdogan told supporters during a speech in Bayburt, in northeast Turkey, on Friday.
