In an effort to improve his poor Soccer World Cup goal scoring record,
England striker Wayne Rooney will see team psychiatrist, Steve Peters.
Rooney
has been training in Portugal with the England team ahead of the World
Cup, and while training hard physically, the 28-year-old has also been
working on the mental side of his game. Rooney has failed to score in
the past eight games in the tournament.
According to Sky Sports website,
Rooney has battled to recapture the international form he showed as a
teenager at the 2004 European Championships, in which he scored four
goals in four games before breaking a metatarsal bone in the team's exit
at the hands of Portugal.
Peters, who has worked together with
the British cycling team, snooker player Ronnie O'Sullivan and Brendan
Rodgers' Liverpool team, will help him improve his England form in
Brazil.
"I'll certainly go and speak to him and see if it can benefit me," said Rooney. "There's no harm in doing that.
Despite
the attacking talent of Daniel Sturridge, Adam Lallana and Raheem
Sterling, Rooney feels he can still make a strong contribution in what
he accepts will be his 'last big one'.
