Newcastle defender Paul Dummett has received online death threats from
Uruguay fans who blame him for the knee injury sustained by Luis Suarez
in Liverpool's final game of the EPL season.
The Reds' striker
had to have keyhole surgery on his knee yesterday, and with just three
weeks to go until the World Cup, Suarez and Uruguay are hoping for a
speedy recovery.
According to BBC Sport website,
Uruguay fans have been targeting Dummett via Twitter for his challenge
on Suarez which they believed caused the need for surgery. It is not
certain, however, if the Newcastle defender is to blame.
Dummett, who was sent off in Liverpool's 2-1 win at Anfield, later had his red card rescinded.
The
challenge didn't seem to result in any immediate injury, but Suarez
reportedly started complaining of pain at the start of his national
training at Uruguay's training camp this week.
Uruguay open their World Cup campaign in the Group D opener against Costa Rica on 14 June and then face England five days later.
Uncapped Dummett was called up to the Wales squad on Thursday for their friendly game against the Netherlands next week.
