Rescuers in Pakistan have pulled a teenage boy alive from the rubble of a collapsed factory near Lahore 50 hours after the structure toppled, officials said on Saturday.
The teenager had been trapped for more than two days after the collapse and his family, thinking him dead, had already identified and buried another recovered body they believed to be his.
"An 18-year-old Muhammad Shahid was also evacuated alive 50 hours after the building collapsed by the blessing of God," Muhammad Usman, a top administration official in Lahore, told AFP.
The four-storey Rajput Polyester polythene bag factory came crashing down on Wednesday evening, and at least 37 bodies have so far been recovered from the wreckage.

Russia deploys anti-aircraft missile systems in Syria

Russia has deployed anti-aircraft missile systems in Syria to defend against potential airstrikes against its forces, state news agency TASS reported on Thursday, citing a Russian general.
"We have considered all the possible threats. We have deployed not only fighter jets, attack aircraft, bombers and helicopters, but also surface-to-air missile systems because there could be various kinds of force-majeure situations," Colonel General Viktor Bondarev was quoted as saying.
Russia has deployed Pantsir-S1 and Buk-M2E missile systems at several strategic locations in Syria, including the Latakia province airbase where Russia has stationed many of its jets for its air campaign, the Interfax news agency reported, citing an undisclosed military diplomatic source.

UK says ISIS likely behind bomb on Russian plane

Britain said on Thursday there was a significant possibility that a group affiliated with Islamic State was behind a suspected bomb attack on a Russian airliner that killed 224 people.
When asked if he thought Islamic State militants were behind the disaster, Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond said: "ISIS-Sinai have claimed responsibility for bringing down the Russian aircraft, they did that straight away after the crash.
"We've looked at the whole information picture, including that claim, but of course lots of other bits of information as well, and concluded that there is a significant possibility," he said on Sky television.

US first lady Michelle Obama is calling on the world to fund and promote societal change to support girls' education.
Speaking on Wednesday at the 2015 World Innovation Summit for Education in the Qatari capital of Doha, Obama said more needs to be done to ensure girls know their bodies "are a source of pride, not pain or shame."

Austria to put time limit on refugee protection

UN says over 700 killed in Iraq in October 2015

The United Nations says the number of Iraqis killed in violence in October was 714, up from 537 people in the previous month.
The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq said in a statement that 559 of those killed in October were civilians, including civilian police, while 155 were members of Iraqi security forces, including the Kurdish peshmerga, Interior Ministry SWAT forces and militias fighting alongside the Iraqi army.
The figures do not include casualties in Anbar province, which the UN says it could not obtain.
The number of civilians injured in October was 1 067 the statement says.

ISIS claims killing of 2 activists in Turkey

The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for last week's slaying of two Syrian activists in Turkey.
In a video posted on Monday, it warned "apostates" that "the arm of the Islamic State will reach you, wherever you are."
Ibrahim Abdul-Qadir and Fares Hamadi were found dead in an apartment in the Turkish city of Sanliurfa on Friday. Abdul-Qader was a founding member of "Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently," a collective of activists who document the Islamic State group's atrocities in its de facto Syrian capital. Both men are from Raqqa.
The grim video shows Hamadi's body, with his throat slit, in a dark room. Abdul-Qadir was not shown.
The video does not make clear whether it was shot in Sanliurfa. It's unclear when the two were killed.

Nightclub shoot-out kills 8 in Beirut

A shoot-out erupted early on Monday as Lebanese forces raided a nightclub north of Beirut, leaving eight people dead, including two officers and at least one member of a notorious crime family, the state-run news agency and the Lebanese army said.
The purpose of the raid at the White Night Club in the city of Jounieh was to apprehend fugitives, the reports said, without providing details. Four officers were also wounded in the firefight.
