Michelle Obama speaks on need for girls' education worldwide

Michelle Obama. (Susan Walsh, AP)US first lady Michelle Obama is calling on the world to fund and promote societal change to support girls' education.
Speaking on Wednesday at the 2015 World Innovation Summit for Education in the Qatari capital of Doha, Obama said more needs to be done to ensure girls know their bodies "are a source of pride, not pain or shame."
Obama said focusing on funding, as well as changing "cultural norms that hurt girls in the first place," is crucial.
The speech is part of the first lady's two-nation visit to the Mideast this week. She'll later travel to Jordan.
Sakena Yacoobi, the founder and CEO of the Afghan Institute of Learning, also won the 2015 WISE Prize for Education, receiving a gold medal and $500 000 for her work.
