At least 43 people were killed and around 200 injured in a twin suicide
bomb attack in Beirut on Thursday evening, November 12. The explosions
claimed by the Islamic State tore through crowds on a busy street in the
neighbourhood of Bourj el-Barajneh, close to Beirut's airport.
The first explosion occurred in a coffee shop. As people gathered and
the injured were being taken away, a second suicide bomber detonated his
device.
Among the dead was 28-year-old Adel Turmuss and his
young daughter. According to his friend, Adel, a furniture maker from
the area saw the second suicide bomber and tried to stop him.
"My friend saw the second guy and tried to stop him. He wrapped his
arms around him and then it exploded."
