Twelve Turkish police officers and a doctor
have been charged over the 2013 death of a US citizen at Istanbul's Ataturk
international airport, the Dogan news agency reported on Friday.
The woman, Tracey Lynn Brown, 48, is seen in a video being pinned down by
several officers for a lengthy period of time. A medical report concluded she
died from extended pressure on her chest and neck.
The officers have been charged with negligent homicide and acting out of the
acceptable use of force, while the doctor is facing a charge of negligence for
allegedly failing to help the woman appropriately.
The officers, who could face 12 years in jail if convicted, say they used
justified force, alleging that Brown had tried to attack them with scissors
after behaving violently and erratically.
The trial will commence next month.
