According to Carlifornia Prison Officials, Former American
football star Lawrence Phillips, who was a a star college running back
at Nebraska in the mid-1990s has been found dead in a case of suspected
suicide in his jail cell.
Prison Guards at Kern Valley State Prison found the 40-year-old unresponsive in his cell shortly after midnight on Wednesday Jan. 13th. He was later pronounced dead at about 1.30am.
His death occurred few hours after a judge ruled there was
enough evidence for him to stand trial for the first-degree murder of
his cellmate, whom he reportedly strangled to death in April.
Lawrence Phillips, who was already serving a 31-year
sentence for choking his ex-girlfriend, had been in prison segregation
since his cellmate's death.
