Graphic pics: 4year old girl & her dad burnt to death during Boko Haram attack in Maiduguri yesterday

A 4 year old girl and her father were among those that were burnt to death inside their homes during an attack on Dalori, a settlement situated on the outskirt of Maiduguri, Borno state yesterday January 30th. Over 100 people were reportedly killed during the attack which lasted over 3 hours. The sect members, dressed in military uniform, shot people dead and burnt homes. About 400 People Sickened by Norovirus Outbreak in Kansas

More than 390 people have reported getting sick in a norovirus outbreak associated with a suburban Kansas City dinner theater.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment initially said more than 100 people got sick after going to the New Theatre Restaurant in Overland Park. On Thursday, KDHE said more than 390 individuals have now reported illness, and four people have laboratory specimens that confirmed norovirus, KDHE said.

4 Chinese Miners Rescued After 36 Days Trapped Underground

Rescuers on Friday pulled out four miners who had spent 36 days trapped underground in a collapsed mine in eastern China.

The gypsum mine in Shandong province collapsed on Christmas Day, killing one and leaving 17 missing, including the four survivors. In the days that followed, rescuers detected the four more than 200 meters (660 feet) below the surface.

Lawyers for Boston Marathon Bomber File Notice of Appeal

Lawyers for Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev (joh-HAHR' tsahr-NEYE'-ehv) have filed a notice of appeal.

The notice filed Friday with the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals doesn't describe any grounds for appeal. Those will be spelled out later in a separate filing.

One of the grounds is expected to be the defense argument that the trial shouldn't have been held in Boston, where many people have connections to the marathon.

Zika virus spreading explosively - WHO

The Zika virus is "spreading explosively" in the Americas and the region may see up to four million cases of the disease strongly suspected of causing birth defects, the World Health Organisation warns.
As the number of suspected cases of microcephaly, thought to be linked to the virus surged in Brazil, WHO head Margaret Chan said an emergency committee would meet on Monday to determine whether the Zika outbreak amounts to a global health emergency.
Microcephaly causes babies to be born with an abnormally small head and brain.
Cases have soared in Brazil from 163 a year on average to more than 3 718 suspected cases since the outbreak, and 68 babies have died, according to the health ministry.

Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Jamaica and Puerto Rico have warned women to avoid getting pregnant for the time being.

Explosive device thrown at German asylum home

Police in southwestern Germany say they're looking for suspects after someone threw an explosive device over the fence of an asylum-seekers' home in the night in the town of Villingen-Schwenningen.
Regional police spokesperson Thomas Kalmbach said on Friday "it was just luck" the device did not explode and nobody was harmed.
Kalmbach says an unidentified person threw the device toward the home at 1:15 a.m. It was noticed by residents, who quickly notified police. A bomb squad destroyed the device in a controlled explosion on the scene after evacuating the home.

Future's former bodyguard shot and killed in his Georgia home

Future's former bodyguard, 27 year old Michael Tanner Phillips, has been shot dead.
Philips was at home in Jonesboro, Georgia, with his pregnant wife on Monday afternoon when an unidentified gunman arrived at the door, Fox 5 reports.

After a loud argument overheard by neighbors at around 1pm, Phillips was shot dead, the report claims.

Woman shot to death for declining a man’s advances at a local bar

A Pittsburgh mother of two was shot and killed on Friday (Jan. 22) after declining a man’s advances at a local bar. Janese Talton-Jackson, 29, was found lying in the street on North Lang Avenue at approximately 2 a.m., after a shooting was reported in the Homewood area.
The assailant, 41-year-old Charles McKinney, was later taken into police custody after a brief chase.

According to reports, Talton-Jackson was approached by McKinney at Cliff’s Bar, where she declined to speak with him.
